I had the opportunity to speak with Senseney Stokes about what she intended for her exhibit. It was really interesting to hear her intellectualize about what she envisioned for this "site specific" installation, including some information on her method of working. Erin Dengerink

I had the pleasure of speaking with Erin Dengerink yesterday while she was working on her installation, about the piece she is presenting at WIA. She talked about her inspiration for the piece as well as some underlying themes of other work she's done.
Her piece is now showing at the Vancouver Ballroom located at 808 Main St. in Vancouver, Washington, through the month of June.

Avantika Bawa

I caught up with Avantika Bawa while she was in the process of staging her installation in building 7 of WIA (415 W. 6th St. Vancouver, Washington). She was kind enough to
allow me to interview her about what she envisions the piece to represent as well as a bit about the philosophy of her artistic style.

On hand to help was recent PNCA graduate, Lydia Rosenberg
who is an artist in her own right. She described her experience with sculptural installation focusing on how the punctuation of language might be translated into visual space. She has a show on Friday, June 4 at a gallery in Portland called 'Carhole' (114 SE 12 Ave).

Janice Arnold

I had the pleasure of speaking with felt artist, Janice Arnold on Friday where she gave me some great insights into her method of creating hybrid felt, which is what will be displayed in her window at WIA. The hybrid felt is created by using a process of moisture, agitation, and pressure to blend together the felt and silk for this particular piece. The result is the merging of two very different textures into a complex pattern of colors and shapes.

felt into the vacant window.

I spent the better part of today's class creating beetaggs for the artists and buildings associated with Windows into Art.
For those that don't know, Beetaggs are a great way to link to a website from something like a poster or print ad using the code that the Beetagg Generator creates along with a Beetagg application that is available on many smart phones.

Social Media for Success

What can social media provide for Windows into Art?

As far as my research can tell, it can provide a voice on the internet and an avenue to market and promote the installation to the world in an age where as some might say anyone who's anyone has an internet presence. Mashable.com has shown itself to be a wealth of information on all things social media which has been very helpful to me in my attempt to use these avenues for web promotion.
It also provides an opportunity for community outreach and connecting with a prospective
audience, as well as a platform for the exchange of relevant (and irrelevant) information.

Internship Journal

This blog will chronicle my internship with the 2010 Windows into Art Exhibition in downtown Vancouver, Washington. I will discuss my successes and hardships in helping to make the exhibition the best that it can be. This will be the first year that organizers Karen Madsen and Cameron Suttles put on this show, so if all goes as planned, the exhibition will make enough waves to turn this into an annual event. Dr. Dene Grigar for co-curating the event along with Karen Madsen.
